Description:

The ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Technique) is an algorithm that uses two sub-arrays realizing a constant translation between the corresponding antenna positions. This is easily realizable with a linear antenna array of N antennas, choosing two sub-arrays with antennas at positions 1 to N-1 and 2 to N. The delay of an incoming planar wave front between the two sub-arrays directly provides an indication for the DoA (direction of arrival). In a circular array, this appears much more complicated, leading to solutions where the circular array is seen as sampling the wave field and then computing the field at a virtual linear array, then applying the same ESPRIT algorithm.

The project should investigate a new conceptual idea to use certain sub-constellations of a circular antenna array without the need to determine the field at a virtual linear array.
