    Oana Graur was born in Bucharest, Romania, in 1987. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) from Jacobs University in 2009. Her Bachelor thesis was entitled “Impulse Noise Cancellation using the Common Mode Signal“. In summer 2008, Oana was an intern at the Driver Assistance and Integrated Safety Department of Volkswagen implementing winSOCK interfaces. During her studies, Oana worked as a Teaching Assistant for several years for multiple Electrical Engineering laboratories.

    Oana joined the Transmission Systems (TrSys) group at Jacobs University as Research Associate in July 2009, starting her integrated Ph.D. studies. During the Masters phase of her studies, she served as a Teaching Assistant for courses such as Digital Signal Processing, Wireline Communications, and Electrical Circuits Analysis. As part of TrSys, for the first 2 years she was involved in a larger DFG-funded project on non-stationary interference cancellation in wireless and wireline systems, with applications in xDSL, DMT and OFDM. Her research efforts resulted in two impulse noise cancellation schemes, one coupled with common-mode signaling, and the second using channel codes. Both schemes would enable extending the maximum xDSL subscriber loop lengths by a few hundred meters, without the typical steep performance degradation expected in the presence of impulse noise.

    After a Ph.D. qualifying examination in 2011, her research focus shifts towards network coding and swarm intelligence, resulting, in early 2013, in the Ph.D. proposal entitled “Steps towards Deterministic Network Coding“. From 2012 to 2014, Oana continues her research on network coding as part of the DFG-funded project “Unequal error protection and security approaches in wireless and network coding“.

    Since 2015 she has been focusing on physical-layer security, as part of the same DFG project. Her research is mostly concerned with designing quantization and LDPC channel codes for reconciliation of non-identical encryption keys that have been generated using wireless channel properties. In 2015/2016 she is involved in an industry collaboration project on satellite communications, with a focus on physical-layer and space data-link protocols. During the same time, she also starts teaching the Masters course “Networks and Protocols” at Hochschule Bremen and the “Basic Electrical Circuits Analysis Lab” at Jacobs University Bremen.

    Her Ph.D. thesis on physical-layer security is to be submitted in early 2017. Her research findings have been published in a series of Springer book chapters and international peer-reviewed conferences.
